When using a dual cable machine, is the weight on the pin the total resistance or is it halved because of the pulley system?

On most dual cable (functional trainer) machines, the weight on the pin is not always the exact resistance you’re lifting. Many use a 2:1 pulley ratio, meaning if the stack shows 40 kg, you’re actually lifting about 20 kg because the pulley system splits the load. Some machines use a 1:1 ratio, where the weight on the pin equals the true resistance. The easiest way to tell is to check the machine label or observe how much the stack moves compared to the cable you pull.
