What is Transcendental Meditation and What is It for?

Faced with this situation, many people resort to what is known as ” transcendental meditation “, a type of meditation that had its origins in India more than 3,000 years ago and that manages to transmit a feeling of total peace and serenity.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was responsible for making it known throughout the Western world. So much so that this religious guru retired to the Himalayan mountains for two years to see first-hand that simply with thought and concentration it was possible to get rid of all negativity and then gain quality of life.

How is Transcendental Meditation Done?

Once you have known what transcendental meditation consists of, below we are going to tell you how it is done, in case you want to put it into practice:

1 Find a quiet place, without noise and dim light. It is important that no one bothers you because if not, you will have to repeat the entire process from scratch.

2 Adopt a very comfortable posture with your back straight. It doesn’t matter if it’s sitting or leaning on the wall.

3 Your body should be relaxed. To do this, it is necessary to wear light clothing that does not constrict any area of the body. You should also not have eaten too large a meal. The tongue should also be resting on the lower teeth.

4 Breathing is essential. When you feel completely comfortable, you should breathe in slowly and deeply, filling your lungs. When you can’t take it anymore, exhale little by little for eight seconds.

5.Say goodbye to thoughts and clear your mind. It is possible that during the process you will be invaded by all kinds of ideas and thoughts. It’s something completely normal. Just let them pass without identifying with them. During this process, you can say a word that resonates with you, like “peace” or “love.”

6 Repeat this process for 20 minutes. When you’re done, open your eyes and soak in the tranquility around you. After this, you can get up little by little.

What Benefits Does Transcendental Meditation Provide?

There are many scientific studies that ensure that transcendental meditation provides a series of benefits to take into account. Firstly, this technique has been shown to improve your mood and, therefore, can help you reduce levels of stress, anxiety or even depression.

It also reduces blood pressure, so it can be an ally to mitigate the effects caused by cardiovascular diseases. Finally, in the social sphere, transcendental meditation also helps you build less toxic human relationships , based on values such as empathy or closeness.
