I sit for long hours due to work. Can regular yoga fully reverse the physical damage caused by years of sitting?
Regular yoga can significantly improve mobility, posture, and muscle balance, which helps counter many effects of prolonged sitting such as tight hips, weak glutes, and spinal stiffness. However, it cannot completely “erase” years of sedentary stress if the daily sitting pattern continues unchanged. Long sitting affects circulation, metabolic health, and deep postural muscle endurance throughout the day. Yoga works best as part of a broader strategy that includes frequent movement breaks, strengthening the posterior chain, improving workstation ergonomics, and maintaining daily walking. In short, yoga is highly beneficial for recovery and mobility, but reversing long-term sitting damage requires consistent movement habits across the entire day.
