I recently started strength training at home using bodyweight exercises. Every time I do squats, I feel discomfort around my knees, especially while getting back up. I don’t have a previous injury, but I spend most of the day sitting for work. Am I doing squats incorrectly?
Knee discomfort during squats can happen due to poor form, weak supporting muscles, limited mobility, or suddenly increasing exercise intensity.
Things to check:
- Keep knees aligned with toes
- Avoid collapsing inward during movement
- Don’t force very deep squats initially
- Strengthen hips and glutes
- Warm up properly before exercise
If pain is sharp, causes swelling, or continues outside workouts, consider consulting a physiotherapist or orthopedic specialist.
