There is a theory about Metabolic Anticipation. If I plan to feast tomorrow, does my body start altering insulin sensitivity today? In 2026, we still haven’t proven if intent alone can trigger a hormonal shift before the first bite of food even enters the mouth.
There is real anticipatory physiology in humans, but it is driven more by conditioning and sensory cues than by abstract intention. The body does show cephalic phase responses, where sight, smell, habitual meal timing, or learned expectation can trigger early insulin release and digestive hormone changes before food is consumed. However, there is no strong evidence that simply planning a feast tomorrow, without sensory exposure or behavioral change, meaningfully shifts systemic insulin sensitivity today. Insulin sensitivity is primarily regulated by sleep, glycogen status, inflammation, activity, and circadian rhythm. The brain can prepare the body for expected intake, but conscious thought alone does not appear to override core metabolic regulation.
