Lately I’ve been trying to eat healthier and cut down junk food. But almost every night after dinner I start craving chocolate, ice cream, or sweets. Sometimes I end up snacking even when I’m not hungry. Is this due to poor self-control or could there be another reason?

Nighttime sugar cravings can happen for several reasons including stress, poor sleep, emotional eating, restrictive dieting, or meals that lack enough protein and fiber.
Helpful strategies:
- Include protein and healthy fats in dinner
- Avoid skipping meals during the day
- Sleep adequately
- Keep healthier snack options available
Completely restricting sweets can sometimes increase cravings, so moderation often works better than extreme dieting.
